HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (Oct 30, 2012) – Mance Media CEO Matthew Mancinelli announced today that the company has cleared its extreme sports docufilm, I BELIEVE I CAN FLY (FLIGHT OF THE FRENCHIES) on Outside Television in the United States, and with Red Bull Media House and Sony Pictures Television’s AXN Channel for Eastern Europe, Germany, Austria and other international territories. Mance Media plans a DVD release to the worldwide marketplace a month after Outside Television’s planned Nov. 1 premiere.
Shot entirely in high-definition, I BELIEVE I CAN FLY (FLIGHT OF THE FRENCHIES) takes viewers on an incredible journey alongside two friends into the world of free flight. The two friends are pioneers in ‘highlining’- a vertiginous combination of climbing, slackline and tightrope walking. Using their skills and experience as climbers, the pair push their boundaries beyond the realms of possibility as they embark on a new evolution of their sport. The film recently won Best Extreme Sports Film at the Barcelona Film Festival and appeared at the Mountainfilm in Telluride festival held at Telluride, Colorado.
Outside Television, America’s only network dedicated to the nation’s more than 140 million active outside enthusiasts, will schedule I BELIEVE I CAN FLY as an anchor to the network’s popular “Mountainfilm in Telluride” film series, starting Nov. 1 at both 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. EST. In that series, Outside Television hosts Lynsey Dyer and David LaHuta present 15 of the world’s top independent documentary films, with subjects ranging from exhilarating adventure to provocative social commentary and environmental concerns. The 90-minute series utilizes insights from top explorers and athletes, groundbreaking filmmakers, as well as outspoken social activists and political leaders, to provide additional context to each of the “Mountainfilm” features.
“The millions of people supporting our network share a passion for the outside that transcends any geographical or cultural boundary, and so Outside Television always strives to attract the most captivating filmmaking from around the entire globe,” says Rob Faris, senior vice president of programming & production at the two-year-old network. “I BELIEVE I CAN FLY is exactly the sort of high quality and inspiring film our viewers have come to expect.”
“These recent MIPCOM clearances showcase Mance Media’s commitment to deliverying high quality programming to its broadcast partners. With 4.4 million plays [IBICF’s trailer] on vimeo, we’re confident in a strong U.S. and European DVD release in Decemeber”, states Matthew Mancinelli, CEO of Mance Media.
Red Bull Media House has acquired all linear and non-linear television rights to I BELIEVE I CAN FLY for Germany speaking Europe, while Sony AXN has acquired the television rights for Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Slovakia, Romania, Bulgaria, Albania and Serbia. Mance Media will release the DVD for I BELIEVE I CAN FLY (FLIGHT OF THE FRENCHIES) as well as ONE STEP BEYOND, Sébastien Montaz-Rosset’s 2nd film, in December.
